Silverstone National played host to my second race in the 750MC BMW 116 Trophy, on the same weekend as a round of the CALM All Porsche Trophy that I was supposed to be racing in too – but that’s another story.
I qualified first, putting in three full timed laps (best 1:33.273), then David jumped in to finish the session with his best time of 1:26.777 to leave us a very respectable 30th on the grid of 45 cars.
I started the race but there was a big crash before the first turn as soon as the lights went out. Five cars were damaged, with two left on the track. After a few safety car laps, the race was very sensibly red flagged and we were herded into the pit lane.
After a fairly long break, the race was restarted behind the safety car. I did a few laps then came in again for my first stop. Out again to take it to about 1/2 time during which my best lap then dropped to 1:30.5
David took over, regaining some of the places I’d lost, and posted a best of 1:26.993 to leave us 32nd out of 40 finishers at the flag.
My thanks to co-driver and coach David Hornsey and Darren and Raff of Constant Racing for the car, with help for Darren’s daughter and friend for pit stop timing.
