At the June CALM All Porsche Trophy weeked at Snetterton, I finally made the decision to buy the Porsche 924 – and a bit spares package – from Clive as it wasn’t selling. I spoke to Phil Brough, who is actually based very near to me, to see if he had the capacity to store and run the car for me and he was happy to do so. Which means I am back racing “Uhtred” as the car is known. Phil collected the car from Clive’s workshop and checked it over; our first purchase were new front discs and pads but otherwise the car was good-to-go.
The series had again decided to do a race on the Brands GP circuit and this year we had bought track time via the HSCC in order to do so. This round was to be just a single 40-minute pitstop race and I registered and paid for entry immedately. Unfortunately the timetable had our official qualifying session late on the Saturday but as I was working at Snetterton with Britcar that day, I could not attend. Instead, after approaching the Clerk of the Course, I was permitted to join the first qualifying session on Sunday to do my requisite 3 laps – it didn’t matter what times I would post as I would be starting from the back of the grid.
Despite four 924s having entered the Snetterton races, sadly I was to be the only car in class at Brands Hatch, meaning I had no one to race against and took home the SP4 1st place trophy.
Our next round will be at Silverstone on the International (south) circuit on Sunday 16th August.
