Today’s free practice sessions on the Silverstone National circuit saw an eventual improvement in my own lap record by 1.11 seconds over my best time from qualifying on the same circuit last season. But the sessions were not without incident – I was following fellow Boxster driver JM Littman into Copse Corner a wee bit faster than I am normally comfortable with and the back started to go. I threw in a pile of opposite lock but then something made me loose control completely, I span and buried the front of the car in the gravel. Here’s a brief video of my excursion:
This wrecked one of the Toyo R888 tyres – fortunately not one of my new ones – and later in the day I had a windscreen crack grow dramatically forcing a change of screen. I was bailed out by another fellow racer, Rebecca Jackson, who located a second hand screen and a local fitter and by the end of the evening, the new screen was in place.
Unfortunately its looking like tomorrow’s qualifying and first race will be in rain, so I’ll be taking it easy and will no doubt adopt my usual last-in-class position.
