The arrival of big black clouds resulted in a flurry of suspension adjustment activity in the garages as teams quickly adopted wet settings and it quickly turned out to be a wise choice as the cars were pelted with hail on the drive to the assembly area to prepare for the first of two races on the Silverstone National circuit. For a change I got a decent start and managed to pass three other Boxsters in Class A to put me 10th, but a big spin at Copse on the second lap left me stationary in the middle of the track (not an experience I want to repeat) and recovery had to wait until the rest of the pack had passed – leaving me completely last.
Track conditions were literally treacherous, with cars spinning left and right. Two Taylors Foundry team mates narrowly missed collision as they headed into the gravel at Aintree Corner and for most of the race, the marshals frantically waved all cars to reduce their pace through that section of the circuit.
I only managed to pass the two slowest 924s before the end of the race, so overall my finish was one of my worst ever results, but the retirement of three Boxsters in my class left me 10th, resulting in a useful 13 championship points. The retirements also mean I start from row 5 of the grid for race 2.
The second race is this afternoon and is looking to be a dry race – which will be very welcome!
