Disappointment for Porsches plus BMW 116 Debut

This weekend saw two days of racing – in two different series – at Snetterton over what turned out to be a rather warm weekend. Plus a down-poor!

This was to be the first round for me in Philip’s left-hand-drive 924 after Moluto’s Clive made the decision to sell the 924 I had been racing in for the last few years. I’d never driven a LHD manual before so it was to be a bit of a learning curve.

Philip drove the car for the second sprint race, on the Sunday morning, and was doing incredibly well ahead of the other two SP4 cars when, on the last lap, the engine died and he was forced to retire. Sadly the damage was serious and there was no way it could have been fixed in time for the start of the 40-minute shared drive race that afternoon.

Sunday was my debut in the BMW 116 Trophy, alongside team owner (and ex-924 racer) Darren Constant and James Charalambides. A large grid of (supposedly identical) 116s all competing for the same space inevitable results in contact, and this got worse when the rain started.

Ultimately we finished 29th out of 33 starters, having suffered a full lap penalty because our second pitstop was just outside the pit window.
