There’s no shortage of companies offering drives of supercar exotica in the UK – a few even offer a drive of a race car. But none can compete with a new offering from Milton Keynes-based Backdraft Motorsport. The company’s day-to-day business is looking after road cars from the likes of Porsche, Bentley, Audi and Ferrari, using their race-derived experience backed with high-tech hardware such as their professional laser suspension alignment rig. The company now have a fleet of three Lamborghini Gallardo race cars, one of which has been raced since 2011 by Fiona James in the Dutch Supercar series and its one of these GT3 beasts that the company are offering drives in as part of their new Simulator and On-Track Experience packages.
At the launch of this new service at Silverstone today, Company Director Mark Hosken told me that he wants to offer something above and beyond the experiences that are commonly available, usually on airfield circuits, by taking small groups of driving enthusiasts from training on a professional simulator right through to driving the sort of race car you can see on track at British GT, Blancpain and Britcar events at the cream of Britain’s race tracks.
Obviously such cars are extremely expensive to both buy and maintain, so the simulator stage provides a way for the customers to get a feel for both the car and the circuit they are to drive on before even sitting in the car. No prior track experience is necessary – but imagine the bragging rights you’ll have in the pub after saying you’ve driven a Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 race car – something very few people can honestly claim.
