The first of the two Sunday races proved far more eventful – as you’ll see! There were two almost simultaneous crashes just after the Paddock Bend hill which lead to safety car deployment and ultimately six cars not making it to the finish. Starting a row forward on the grid, based on the Race 1 result, I was still far enough back to see the carnage unfold and by the time I reached them, most of the affected cars were stationary – and its always easier to miss a stationary target!
You’ll see me narrowly miss team-mate Nick Hull’s green tiger Boxster but he was not so fortunate and his left front suspension received too much damage to be fixable for the final race in the afternoon. Even worse off was Mike Sellar’s yellow 986, on the right of the track, which was hit both ends as it span. But with all the carnage, thankfully there were no injuries. Watch on YouTube for improved quality.
Due to the retirements, this race gave me the highest points score of the weekend with 9th out of 10 in class, 19th out of 23 finishers, and a best lap time 0.3 seconds faster than my personal best.
